The programme develops combined expertise across natural-resource technologies and the chemical sciences, aimed at researching, designing and developing biomedical materials and their production technologies, with attention to their impact on society and the environment. Study combines inorganic, organic, physical, colloidal and analytical chemistry with mathematics, statistics, physics and engineering to describe and analyse the properties, structure and manufacture of biomedical materials, including the selection of renewable and non-renewable natural resources for their production. Students develop research skills in formulating experiments, interpreting results and drawing conclusions, alongside specific skills in synthesis, characterisation, modelling and digitalisation of biomedical-materials production, and the selection of appropriate laboratory and technological equipment. The programme also covers the technical, safety, environmental, economic and ethical requirements of biomedical-materials production, together with the principles of sustainable development and the circular economy, and concludes with a final degree project and its defence.
