This programme builds knowledge of preserving and reusing twentieth-century architectural and urban heritage, developing the skills to create responsible strategies for its renewal and sustainable adaptation while weighing impact on society and the environment. Students learn to apply civil-engineering knowledge to heritage-related design and conservation problems, prepare studies and complex projects addressing spatial, environmental and socio-cultural characteristics, and use integrated geodetic methods such as laser scanning, photogrammetric survey and heritage building-information modelling to document heritage objects. The curriculum also covers identifying physical problems in heritage buildings and selecting functions that balance user needs, cost and legal requirements, as well as planning analytical, modelling and experimental research into twentieth-century heritage structures. Teaching combines theoretical lectures, seminars, public discussion and debate with practical tasks and case studies, and students devote at least half their time to independent work within international, interdisciplinary teams. The programme concludes with a final project, assessed on a ten-point cumulative scale.
