This programme of a year and a half develops the ability to examine public policy, governance and security issues from a comparative perspective, interpreting and critically weighing them, and to design and carry out research built on sophisticated methodological approaches that support evidence-based recommendations. Core subjects cover risk and security governance, European security architecture, social research methods, international institutions and cooperation, contemporary political theories, and comprehensive studies of risk and security issues, alongside a research project and the final degree project, with electives such as data security for social science, public governance and civil society, the political system of the European Union, and ethics and values in the public sector. Students build the ability to explain and compare concepts of public governance and security, apply models of policy formation and decision-making to security challenges, assess and design public programmes at both the national and international level, and communicate evidence-based arguments to expert and non-expert audiences in multicultural, interdisciplinary settings.
