This programme develops the ability to build, deploy and keep software running across different fields using sound engineering practice, solving professional problems through scientific research. Core modules include computational intelligence and decision-making, advanced machine learning, component-based software-system design, requirements analysis for software, software-quality-assurance methods, semantic data models, software-implementation management, product-development team management, software-engineering management, and software maintenance, evolution and security engineering, developed through three linked research projects and a final master's project. Students learn to explain artificial-intelligence and machine-learning concepts and semantic-web technologies, apply software-engineering tools to model data semantics and develop, maintain and secure software, define and research problems relevant to the field considering legal and market context, and evaluate the quality of software products, services and engineering processes. Teaching combines classroom lectures, laboratory work and seminars with independent study, concluding with a final degree project and its defence, assessed through a cumulative system that weights intermediate and final results.
