This programme trains human geography specialists able to research, analyse and model socio-economic problems and their spatial causes, applying sustainable-development principles to proposed solutions, alongside regional-development and GIS skills and an optional route into geography teaching. Coursework spans cartography, topography and GIS basics, physical and population geography, the geography of transport, landscape, tourism and rural areas, regional studies and spatial data modelling, moving into the social-economic geography of Lithuania and the world and the planning of sustainable regional development. Research training covers planning territorial studies, applying geographic research methods at local, regional and global levels, observing and measuring social phenomena, and producing spatial distribution maps and geo-informational data using GIS, mathematical and statistical methods. The course includes coursework projects, a final thesis, and practice placements at home and abroad, with an optional add-on teaching qualification after the first year; graduates are described as suited to roles in municipal and regional-development bodies, national parks, environmental protection, logistics and GIS-based planning.
