This programme of a year and a half develops the knowledge and analytical skills needed to independently examine contemporary media and the political processes within the information field, sitting at the intersection of politics and media research. Compulsory courses, making up most of the 90-credit programme, include the study of visual practices, techniques and ideologies, media and politics, the concept of modern politics, and power and communication, with electives such as political psychology, Nordic and Baltic states studies, and conflict analysis paired with peace studies. Teaching is student-oriented, built around analysing practical problems in groups and independent literature analysis leading to research papers and a thesis, developing the ability to analyse political communication effectiveness, examine relations among political actors, and produce well-argued analytic texts on the relationship between politics and media.
