BA/BS in Sociology

Sociology at Clemson leads to a B.A. or a B.S. and examines the social and structural forces that shape human behavior. Students examine society's hardest questions and learn to weigh them with evidence. Coursework addresses social institutions such as family, education, and religion, along with stratification by class, gender, race, and ethnicity. Students also study how people are socialized, why deviance occurs, and how aging shapes life, and they examine social problems tied to crime, environmental issues, health, and mental health. Students gather and analyze information, sharpen their reasoning, and construct arguments grounded in evidence. The discipline is offered as both a B.A. and a B.S., with a minor available for students who want a smaller focus.
