Overview

Sociology for transfer gives students a wide lens on how people interact, how social processes unfold, and how societies are structured. It also introduces the research tools sociologists use to investigate those patterns. Students learn to read social diversity through a sociological perspective, reason critically about community problems, and connect theory and method to daily life. They consider what multicultural diversity and a connected world mean for society, and how change can be proposed. Graduates may head into teaching, research, social work, or similar fields. This is an associate degree for transfer, so finishing it positions a student to continue at a California State University campus with the lower division groundwork already done. To earn it, students need at least a 2.0 average in transferable work, a C or better in every major course, and verified general education completion. Students should meet with a counselor to plan courses and confirm requirements at the school they hope to attend next.
