AA/AS in Geography and Cartography

Geographic information science joins geography with technology to reveal patterns in the environment. Students learn how spatial data is gathered, modeled and analyzed to address practical problems. Skills include cartography, analyzing data, coding and working with spatial relationships. Course examples draw on data from Minnesota and Wisconsin, and upper-level classes let students link GIS with other interests. Graduates have often found paid internships or jobs at public agencies and private firms around the Twin Cities. The program offers a certificate and an Associate of Applied Science. Prospective students can review program details, cost information and faculty listings on the program page before applying. The college also publishes an article on what a GIS degree can lead to, which can help applicants compare the program with their own interests and goals.
