BA/BS in Museology/Museum Studies

Walsh offers a bachelor's degree in Museum Studies that combines nonprofit management with museology and hands-on practice. The program trains future museum leaders for work in curating, teaching and operations while introducing many kinds of collections, guided by principles of ethical practice, care for cultural heritage and the interpretation of history. Students learn to design exhibitions by curating shows in a campus gallery, complete a practicum at a working historical museum on campus, and finish two semesters of supervised internships at regional museums. Capstone projects can be tailored to a student's interests, such as designing an exhibition, a school tour, an archival project or a strategic plan. Global learning experiences are available, and graduates hold positions such as curator within the museum field. Faculty guide students toward museum careers in curation, education and collections work.
