Bow Valley College's Legal Assistant Diploma is a five-term program, completable in as little as 18 months including a field placement, that prepares graduates to support lawyers across a wide range of legal matters. Coursework covers legal terminology, document preparation, legal research, and office procedures used in law offices, corporate legal departments, and the judicial system, building keyboarding speed toward an expected 60 words per minute by program completion. In the final term, students complete a mandatory, unpaid, four-week field placement worth three credits, gaining direct experience in a legal workplace. The program includes a mentorship partnership with Dentons Canada's Calgary office, connecting students with practising legal professionals. Courses are offered both in person and online, though availability varies by semester. Graduates are prepared for legal assistant and related administrative roles supporting lawyers in private practice, corporate, and government legal settings.
