Overview

Animal cell culture is presented as an essential process across the life sciences, spanning vaccine development, basic and applied research, and the biotechnology, biopharmaceutical, and biomanufacturing sectors. The micro-credential targets individuals pursuing a life-sciences career who already hold solid academic grounding in one or more related disciplines, including pharmacology, physiology, neurobiology, immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, health sciences, or biological sciences.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants to this micro-credential must have successfully completed a Cell Biology course equivalent to second-year undergraduate level, in one of these categories: a recent (within five years) Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences graduate, a student currently in third year or above of such a degree, a recent Associate or Diploma in Life Sciences graduate, a student in second year or above of such a diploma, or someone currently or recently (within five years) working in a life-sciences laboratory. Applicants from non-life-sciences laboratories may also apply but must first complete a second-year Animal Cell Biology course before enrolling. BCIT targets applicants with academic background in biological sciences, health sciences, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, neurobiology, physiology or pharmacology. International applicants must hold valid status in Canada. No minimum GPA, admission average, or English/French language test score is published for this micro-credential.

Start Date: Spring/Summer
Application Deadline: BCIT publishes common credential application dates for most cohort-based diplomas, degrees and Flexible Learning routes, though each program's own page governs: for the January 2027 intake domestic applications run 1 February 2026 to 2 January 2027 and international to 1 November 2026; for the April 2027 intake domestic runs 1 May 2026 to 1 April 2027 and international to 1 February 2027; for September 2027 domestic applications open 1 October 2026 and close 1 September 2027, international 2 July 2027. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
