MA/MS in Anthropology

The Master of Arts in Anthropology examines patterns of social relationships and cultural responses, studying the world's peoples within a cross-cultural, comparative framework. Students may pursue either a thesis or non-thesis (coursework) pathway, combining advanced seminars in anthropological theory and methods with either a research thesis or additional coursework. The program covers areas such as social and cultural anthropology, ethnographic methods and cross-cultural analysis, preparing students for further doctoral study or applied research careers. Thesis-pathway students work with a faculty supervisor on an original research project, while non-thesis students complete additional graduate coursework in place of a thesis. The program is delivered in person and normally takes two years of full-time study to complete, with admission offered for the Fall term. Graduates pursue careers in research, academia, international development, cultural heritage and other fields requiring advanced training in anthropological analysis.
