The Master of Arts in Human Rights and Social Justice at Carleton University examines social justice through anti-colonial, decolonial, anti-racist, transnational, and community-based frameworks. The program occupies the interdisciplinary space between human rights and social justice as fields of academic inquiry and political advocacy, with research strengths in critical human rights and citizenship, public and global health, social movements and political cultures of solidarity, and Indigenous epistemologies. Students choose from coursework, research essay, or thesis pathways over a nominal two years of full-time study, delivered in person with a Fall intake. The program is designed to develop dynamic coursework, innovative pedagogical approaches, and a research agenda situated at the overlap of human rights and social justice scholarship. Graduates pursue careers and further study in human rights advocacy, policy, and related social justice fields.
