This program leads to a Graduate Diploma in Curatorial Studies, delivered on campus at Carleton University in Ottawa, with components held in collaboration with the Carleton University Art Gallery and museums, galleries, and festivals across the National Capital Region. The interdisciplinary program spans the arts, social sciences, and sciences, covering museological and curatorial issues alongside applied, discipline-specific training. Two pathways are offered: a Type 2 diploma combining academic training with professional skills for students concurrently enrolled in an MA or PhD at Carleton, and a stand-alone Type 3 diploma for students or practitioners supplementing academic qualifications with practical training. The program includes a two-semester practicum placed with partner cultural institutions, providing hands-on training in professional curatorial practice. Graduates are prepared for roles in art galleries, museums of anthropology, history, nature, science, and war, as well as in dance, film, or music programming, government, heritage conservation, auction houses, and commercial galleries. Entry is offered in the Fall term.
