Offered by Cégep André Laurendeau in Montréal, Canada, Diploma in Arts, lettres et communication : option Arts is a diploma in Visual Arts programme. The programme runs for 2 years. Teaching is in French. Tuition is CAD 3,740 per year for local students.
Arts, lettres et communication – option Arts, profil Photographie et design graphique is a pre-university DEC (500.AF) at Cégep André-Laurendeau. The program builds knowledge of art, photography, and design history; skills in producing creative photography and graphic-design projects; proficiency with image-editing and layout software; the ability to assemble a professional portfolio; and a reflective, critical view of visual culture. Students work in a dedicated photography lab with individual workstations, a high-end graphic-design lab, and a studio-gallery where student work is exhibited, and the department maintains a permanent collection of student artwork; the page also describes end-of-year exhibitions and a gala, a major photography project built to strengthen students' portfolios, and partnerships with cultural venues for public display of student work. Teaching staff are drawn from professional art and art-history backgrounds. Students can take part in a pedagogical exchange with European photography schools, with destinations such as Paris, Brussels, Berlin, or Rome mentioned. Graduates go on to university programs including visual arts, visual and media arts, fine arts with a photography or design major, graphic design, environmental design, art history, and cultural-action programs, at institutions such as Université Laval, UQAM, and Concordia, some of which require a portfolio for admission. It suits students building a visual-arts practice around photography and graphic design.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Prerequisites (préalables), exactly as published on the program's own page: DES (Diplôme d'études secondaires); the program page states no further subject-specific prerequisite beyond the diploma. No minimum grade, interview, portfolio, or language test beyond the general Quebec-college process is stated on the program page. Admission follows the college's general process: apply online through the Service régional d'admission du Montréal métropolitain (SRAM) at admission.sram.qc.ca, which handles admission for every Montreal-area Cégep, with the college making the final decision. First-round deadlines are 1 March for Fall (applications open mid-January) and 1 November for Winter (applications open mid-September); where more qualified applicants apply than there are seats, the Cote R (R-score), based on cumulative average, ministerial-exam results and program prerequisites, ranks candidates.
