Overview
Techniques de travail social is a technical DEC (388.A1) at Cégep André-Laurendeau preparing students for professional social-work practice. The program develops skills in building a professional helping relationship with individuals, families, groups, and communities; applying intervention approaches across individual, family, group, and community contexts, in both formal and involuntary settings; analyzing social policy and legislation and their impact on clients, including rights-advocacy work; intervening in crisis and socio-legal situations; and resolving ethical dilemmas according to professional standards. Teaching uses high-fidelity simulation and is built around field-based experience in partnership with community collaborators, including two placements of four days a week in the fifth and sixth sessions for sustained immersion in practice settings. The program is offered in an alternance travail-études format, and students may have the option of an international or Indigenous-community placement. Graduates work across Quebec's health and social-services network (CISSS, CIUSSS, CLSC, CHSLD, youth centres), public services such as employment centres and the CNESST, and community organizations including shelters for victims of violence, LGBTQIA+ advocacy groups, and homelessness services. The DEC gives access to university programs such as social work, psychoeducation, psychology, sexology, criminology, and sociology, with some universities crediting DEC coursework toward the bachelor's degree. It suits students drawn to direct, relationship-based social intervention.
