Overview

The Journalism profile is part of the Communications in the Media programme (589.BC), within the Art and Technology of Media stream, a 3-year DEC. Cégep de Jonquière is the only institution in Quebec to offer this Communications in the Media programme. The profile covers journalism across web, television, radio, and social-media platforms, and students work with industry-standard equipment while producing content for the student newspaper, La Pige. The third year of the programme is entirely practice-based. Graduates are prepared for roles such as journalist, sports journalist, video journalist, writer/editor, or researcher within media organizations.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a Quebec Secondary School Diploma (DES), or a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DEP) together with the required Secondary 5 language and Secondary 4 mathematics courses, or prior education recognized by the Cégep as equivalent or sufficient. Some programmes carry additional particular admission conditions or selection criteria beyond these general requirements. Applications are submitted through the Service régional d'admission du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, with fall-term admission rounds (deadlines March 1, May 1, and June 1) and a winter-term round (deadline November 1).
