Overview
Nursing is a technical Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC, program code 180.A0) offered by Cégep Garneau in Quebec City, available as a regular six-session (three-year) program or, uniquely among Quebec cegeps, an accelerated 22-month track. The curriculum covers human body systems, microbiology and infection prevention, pharmacology and medication administration, pathology and clinical assessment, nursing practice and care planning, and specialized areas including medical-surgical, pediatric, maternal-child and psychiatric nursing, alongside general education courses. Clinical placements occur every session in Quebec City hospitals and care facilities, covering medical-surgical units, pediatrics, maternal care, psychiatry, long-term care and rehabilitation; students may work as patient care attendants after their first session. Teaching uses problem-based learning in small groups, a clinical immersion centre with interactive mannequins, and virtual reality for psychiatric scenarios, with an optional intercultural or international placement in the final year. The program suits students seeking direct entry into nursing practice, reporting licensing exam pass rates of 87 percent in 2023, 100 percent in 2024 and 99 percent in 2025.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must first meet Cégep Garneau's general collegial admission conditions: under Quebec's Règlement sur le régime des études collégiales, holding a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or equivalent training recognized by the college, with conditional admission possible when at most six DES credits remain outstanding, completed in the applicant's first college semester. Soins infirmiers additionally requires Science and Technology (ST) and Environmental Science and Technology (STE), or Applied Technology and Science (ATS) and Environmental Science (SE), from Secondary 4. Chemistry from Secondary 5 is also required, but may be completed as late as before the fifth college session; students missing it must take an upgrading course at an adult-education centre, since it cannot fit the intensive schedule. No French or English proficiency test score is published. The college expects to admit about 144 students in the regular stream and 42 in the intensive stream each fall, with selection applied only if eligible applications exceed the places available.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through SRACQ (Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec) for programmes starting in 2027: the Fall 2027 intake has a first-round deadline of 1 March 2027, with further rounds on 1 May, 1 June and 1 August 2027 filling remaining seats; the Winter 2027 intake closes its first round on 1 November 2026, then 1 December 2026 and 2 January 2027. International applicants outside France apply through SRACQ from 1 September 2026 and must complete their file by 1 February 2027 for Fall 2027 entry, after which no international candidate can be admitted; Winter entry is offered only to French citizens, who may apply until 1 May 2027 for Fall or between 15 May and 15 October 2027 for Winter 2028. Admission is not indefinitely rolling: each round carries a firm cut-off, though later rounds absorb whatever seats remain. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
