Early Childhood Education (Online Asynchronous) is a certificate program at College of the North Atlantic that delivers the same ECE curriculum as the on-campus program in a fully online, asynchronous format, allowing students to register each semester from available course offerings. A personalized Learner Course Plan is developed for each student based on an assessment of prior ECE or related training and previous learning, so program length varies by student. The program requires an internet-ready computer and basic computer skills such as email use, file management and installing software. Admission follows the same entrance requirements as the full-time ECE program, plus a criminal records check and vulnerable sector check, proof of immunization, and at least an emergency-level (one-day) first aid and CPR certification covering children. Students must be physically able to lift and move children, materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a consistent basis. Graduates are prepared for employment in early learning and child care settings or for self-employment in child care.
