Overview

Urban Planning examines how urban development shapes economic, social and environmental outcomes, and covers the regulatory frameworks in Canada and Quebec that govern planning practice, along with technical training in computerized mapping and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Students complete in-depth, year-long projects through the Advanced Urban Laboratory. Students are first admitted to the Major in Urban Studies and transfer into the Specialization (60 credits) or Honours (63 credits) in Urban Planning after meeting a grade point average of 3.0 or 3.3 respectively in prerequisite coursework. Full-time study takes a minimum of three to four years (90-120 credits), with classes held on the Sir George Williams campus in Montreal and admission in the Fall or Winter term. The degree is not an accredited planning degree but aligns with the curriculum standards of the Ordre des urbanistes du Québec.
