Overview
This Certificate in Business Studies, offered through Concordia's John Molson School of Business, gives students a general foundation in business knowledge and practices, including accounting, organizational behaviour, marketing, market analysis and operations management. The 30-credit program is designed for students who want to advance their careers but are not enrolled in a traditional Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Administration degree; a Minor in Business Studies of the same credit weight is available to students in other faculties outside John Molson. Classes are held on the Sir George Williams campus in Montreal, with entry in the Fall or Winter term. The certificate adds a business perspective to study in other fields and can serve as a foundation for further study in a business degree program.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry from Quebec CEGEP (pre-university) requires an average of 26 in Calculus 1 and Linear Algebra, with at least one of the two courses completed before entry; technical DEC holders in a business-related field may also be eligible, needing a 26 mathematics average or a minimum 75% in Secondary 5 Math. Ontario and other Canadian high-school applicants need a B overall average with B in a pre-calculus, calculus or equivalent math course; IB Diploma applicants need 29 points overall with 4 HL or 5 SL in mathematics; Baccalaureat francais applicants need 13 points overall including Specialite mathematiques and Mathematiques complementaires; British GCE applicants need at least two A-level exams at CC with C in math, or equivalent AS-level or BTEC results. Internal transfer applicants need a 2.7 average overall and in math, with ECON 201, ECON 203, MATH 208 and MATH 209 completed or exempted; external transfer applicants need a B- average overall and in math, with Calculus and Linear Algebra coursework. The Minor in Business Studies requires a 2.5 CGPA overall and a 2.7 average in MATH 208 and MATH 209, with ECON 201, ECON 203, MATH 208 and MATH 209 completed. Concordia's institution-wide English proficiency minimum applies unless exempt: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 70, or Duolingo 105. Fall applications are due March 1 (February 1 for U.S./international) and Winter applications November 1 (August 1 for U.S./international).
