Overview
The Creative Arts Therapies MA, Drama Therapy option, combines theatre and drama techniques with clinical therapeutic approaches. The program is approved by the North American Drama Therapy Association (NADTA) and provides experiential and clinical training preparing graduates to practice as registered drama therapists; graduates receive a one-year complimentary NADTA membership. The curriculum totals 60 credits and is normally completed over two years of full-time study, combining coursework, supervised clinical practicum, and research components. Admission requires a bachelor's degree including 24 credits in theatre and 24 credits in psychology (introductory, developmental, abnormal psychology, personality theories, and research methodology), a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.30 scale, documented involvement in drama and theatre, and relevant clinical or educational work experience. Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English proficiency. The program admits students in the Fall term only, at Concordia University's Sir George Williams campus.
