The Master of Music in Performance: Collaborative Piano is a thesis-based program offered by the Schulich School of Music, training pianists as collaborative musicians in vocal, instrumental, and opera repertoire coaching rather than as chamber musicians alone. Students develop artistry in accompaniment, ensemble coaching, and opera repertoire while completing a research-based thesis component. Faculty are experienced coaches with international stage and recording careers in vocal, opera, and orchestral repertoire. Students in the program have received grants and awards including Hnatyshyn Foundation and Developing Artist grants, Canada Council Awards, and Schulich School of Music Travel Grants, and have performed at institutions such as the Franz Schubert Institute and the Halifax Summer Opera. The School houses performance spaces, research and production laboratories, and the CIRMMT research centre. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 and English-language proficiency. The program admits students for the Fall intake only.
