Overview
The Master of Arts in Sociology provides advanced training in sociological methods and theories, combining traditional theoretical foundations with the study of contemporary social problems. Students connect with research centres including the Centre for the Interdisciplinary Study of Culture and Society and the Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology. The programme is thesis-based, offered as either a Primary Research option with a 21-credit thesis or a Bibliographic Research option with an 18-credit thesis, and requires 45 credits in total. The credential awarded is a Master of Arts (MA), normally completed in two years of full-time study. Admission requires solid undergraduate preparation comparable to that expected of Major students at Concordia, with a minimum B average. Thesis proposals requiring specific linguistic skills are accepted only from students competent in the relevant languages.
