Laboratory Technology (Analytical Chemistry) is a three-year Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) technical program at Dawson College that prepares students for analytical chemistry work across the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, environmental and quality-control sectors. Students learn to use conventional and modern instrumental methods, including chromatographs, auto-analyzers and spectrophotometers, to prepare and analyze samples, test for microorganisms in industrial samples, and apply quality-assurance principles in a chemical laboratory. Training takes place in industry-level chemistry labs and active-learning classrooms, with paid work-study internship placements of up to six months available through the Alternance Travail-Etudes option. The program suits students interested in chemistry, quality control and laboratory-based scientific work. Graduates find roles as analytical chemistry technicians in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, environmental and industrial laboratories, and some continue to university studies in chemistry or related sciences. Admission requires Secondary V mathematics and Secondary V chemistry.
