Diploma in Nursing is a diploma in Nursing programme offered by Dawson College in Westmount, Canada. The programme runs for 3 years. Tuition for international students is CAD 11,740 per semester.
Nursing is a three-year Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) technical program at Dawson College that combines classroom instruction with laboratory practice, high-fidelity simulation and clinical placements beginning in the first semester. Over the course of the program, students complete weekly clinical rotations across settings such as acute care, long-term care, pediatric and obstetrical units, culminating in a sixth-semester internship supervised by a preceptor. The curriculum covers patient care planning and evaluation, pharmacology, data collection and analysis, and nursing interventions across medical-surgical, postnatal, pediatric, psychiatric, geriatric and ambulatory care, together with practical skills such as vital sign monitoring, medication administration, injections and wound care. The program suits students planning a career as a registered nurse and prepares graduates to sit the licensing examination administered by the Ordre des infirmieres et infirmiers du Quebec. Graduates may also continue into university nursing degrees, including McGill's integrated bachelor's pathway. Admission requires a Secondary V diploma, Secondary IV environmental science and technology, Secondary V chemistry, and an appropriate level of English.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Requires a Quebec Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES), or an academic background judged equivalent, including Secondary IV Environmental Science & Technology or Environmental Science (558-404 or 558-402) and Secondary V Chemistry (551-504); Secondary IV enriched Mathematics or Secondary V Mathematics is considered an asset, as is completing the science prerequisites within the last five years. Once admitted, students must complete the O.I.I.Q. nursing student registration, pass a criminal record check, and provide proof of a complete immunization record. The application deadline is March 1.
