Overview
Developed by Douglas College in partnership with the BC Career Development Association and guided by an active advisory committee, this part-time certificate builds the competencies, knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to work effectively with a diverse client population in the career, employment and vocational rehabilitation fields. Students learn techniques for working with individuals and groups, how to use assessment tools, and how to apply labour market trends, career transitions, resource materials and the Canadian Standards and Guidelines. Delivery is entirely online and asynchronous: courses run for two to four weeks and combine interactive discussion, live content and video with regular instructor facilitation, and each 30-hour course includes a recorded one-hour live session in its second week. Admission is open throughout the year, students may begin with any course, and the full program must be completed within three years.

Admission Requirements: The Career Development Practice Certificate has no formal entrance requirements: program admission runs year-round, and applicants register directly for any of the ten required courses without first submitting an application. A free program application is only required, and only for students planning to complete the full ten-course certificate, before they begin their fifth course; there is no deadline before that point and no minimum grade, language-test score, or reference requirement stated for entry into the program. Individual course-level prerequisites may apply to advanced courses within the program, but no academic credential, GPA, or English-proficiency score is required simply to enrol in the certificate's introductory courses.
