Overview
The Career Educator Certificate is a stepping stone for teachers, career education coordinators and administrators across Canada who want to support effective career-connected learning for every student in the K-12 system. It is especially useful for educators who hold a bachelor's degree but have limited experience teaching career education courses, for teachers deepening existing practice, and for coordinators supporting their own staff to deliver career education aligned to provincial curriculum. The program is aligned to the Pan-Canadian Competency Framework for Career Development Professionals and every course is taught by a National Certified Career Development Professional who is also a qualified teacher. Five 15-hour courses, each running over three weeks, are delivered in an interactive facilitated asynchronous format built on discussion and reflective assignments applied to the participant's own teaching context, beginning with the Talking About Careers course.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: To apply, candidates must submit: a program application form; a current resume highlighting their education and experience as an educator; proof of completion of a Bachelor of Education or equivalent education program; a letter of intent, of no more than one page, describing personal goals and how the programme aligns with them; one letter of reference, which may be personal or work-related; and proof of completion of English 12 with a minimum final grade of C, or equivalent LPI test results with a score of 4 on all sections. The completed application package is emailed to the Continuing Education office. No interview, criminal record check, or minimum GPA is stated on the programme page.

Application Deadline:Douglas College publishes college-wide application windows rather than a single date for every programme, and the domestic and international timetables differ. Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC: for the 2027 entry cycle, Fall applications open 1 October 2026, Winter applications open 1 February 2026, and Summer applications open 1 June 2026; limited-enrolment programmes set no fixed close and shut once seats fill, while open-enrolment programmes stay open until 4:00 p.m. the Friday before the semester starts. International applicants apply directly to Douglas: Fall 2026 entry is now closed, Winter 2027 entry is accepted until 30 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry until 31 January 2027. Admission is effectively rolling within each window until seats or the deadline are reached. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
