There’s nothing quite like working with your hands and seeing the real results of a good day’s work. If you’re looking to begin a career in the dynamic and in-demand world of an electrician, Fanshawe’s Electrical Techniques program will provide a solid foundation of skills. If you want to achieve your network cabling specialist certification or kickstart your electrical apprenticeship training, this course is for you.You’ll begin the electrician program by familiarizing yourself with electrical fundamentals and theories. You’ll learn from a variety of courses, such as the fire alarm technician course, with takeaways including how to troubleshoot digital electronics and network cabling, installation practices, and industry communication. You’ll take these fundamentals into cutting-edge labs, where you’ll put your training to work. You’ll graduate ready and able to work as an Industrial Electrician Apprentice, Construction and Maintenance Electrician Apprentice, Network Cabling Specialist, or Fire Alarm Technician. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with courses from the College (C), University (U), University/College (M) or Open (O) stream, or equivalent, or mature-applicant status; applicants without a diploma can qualify via the Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) Grade 12 Equivalency Certificate. Fanshawe recommends Grade 11 or 12 Construction Technology (C), Grade 11 or 12 Computer Engineering Technology (M), and Grade 12 Mathematics for College Technology (C) or Foundations for College Mathematics (C) as preparation, though these are not mandatory prerequisites. Applicants whose first language is not English must show proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79, PTE Academic 53 with no skill below 45, CAEL 60 with no band below 50, Cambridge English 169 with no skill below 162, or Duolingo 105 with no sub-score below 95. Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake.
