Overview
The Master of Arts in Islamic Studies is a thesis-based, research-intensive program offered by the Institute of Islamic Studies in the Faculty of Arts at McGill University. The program develops skills in critical thinking, literature review, and research dissemination, and may be taken with a Gender and Women's Studies option focused on gender and women's studies in Islamic contexts. Courses are offered in Arabic, Persian, Turkish, and Urdu, and the Institute houses the Islamic Studies Library, one of the largest collections of its kind in North America. With supervisor approval, students may take courses with affiliated faculty in other departments, including History, Anthropology, and Political Science. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0, along with English-language proficiency. Applications for the Fall intake open September 15, with a deadline of December 15 for both international and domestic applicants.
