This 18-month diploma prepares students to train and manage service dogs for people with disabilities. Students house, raise, and train dogs in development while studying canine physiology, learning theory, obedience training, assistance dog law, and disability awareness. The curriculum also covers business operations relevant to dog-training enterprises, including accounting, marketing, and fundraising. The program runs across five semesters: four on-campus semesters combined with an eight-week work semester that provides applied training experience. Students develop training techniques, critical thinking, and communication skills used across dog-related professions, with emphasis on training service dogs for a range of disabilities. Graduates are prepared for roles in service dog training, canine program management, and related animal-care and disability-support fields. Admission follows the high school or mature-student route, and a Police Information Check is required before classes begin.
