Overview
Chemical Technology is a two-year, nationally accredited diploma program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology that prepares students for careers as chemical technologists in industrial, government and commercial laboratories. Training is hands-on and lab-focused, delivered in NAIT's Centre for Chemical Studies, where students use modern laboratory instruments and computer applications. The curriculum covers standard and specialized laboratory techniques across scientific disciplines along with experimental design, data acquisition and problem-solving, with safety principles integrated throughout the coursework so graduates are well-versed in industry safety standards. Graduates are prepared for careers in research laboratory support, environmental analysis and industrial production, equipped with the technical expertise to contribute to scientific advancement across a range of industries. The program is delivered in person on NAIT's main campus with a Fall intake.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry requires Grade 12 Language Arts (English 30-2), Grade 12 Mathematics (Math 30-2), Grade 12 Chemistry (Chemistry 30), and proof of English Language Proficiency (IELTS Academic 6.0 in each section, TOEFL iBT 4.0 overall with 4.0 in each section, PTE Academic 58, or Duolingo 115 overall with no sub-score under 100, among other listed tests). An alternative entrance pathway accepts a minimum of 24 post-secondary credits, or 8 post-secondary courses, from an accredited degree or diploma in a related engineering or engineering-technology field, with an admission GPA of 2.0 based on the most recently completed 24 credits.
