Overview
NSCC's Precision Machining certificate teaches students to interpret engineering drawings and use precision measurement tools to manufacture custom metal parts. The one-year program provides hands-on training on conventional lathes, milling machines, drill presses, band saws and pedestal grinders, along with precision measurement techniques and an introduction to Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining. Students also learn to diagnose common mechanical malfunctions in machined components and equipment, building the precision and quality-control habits expected on a production shop floor. The program includes a mandatory field experience placement of approximately five weeks, typically unpaid, with students responsible for their own transportation and accommodation. Graduates are prepared for machinist and machine-shop technician roles in manufacturing and industrial settings, and international graduates are eligible to apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need a High School Graduation Diploma or equivalent. International applicants must also meet NSCC's country-specific secondary-school equivalency standard and its English-language proficiency requirement, met through an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 overall with no band below 6.0, a TOEFL iBT score of 4 overall with no section below 3.5, a Duolingo English Test score of 115 overall with no sub-score below 95, or a Pearson PTE Academic score of 55.
