Program details

Overview

This program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Honours) over four years, delivered in-class at the North Oshawa campus in partnership with Durham College, and covers nursing practice and the human experience of health, illness, and healing using high-tech nursing labs and simulated learning. Clinical placements are a core, required component in every year of the program, starting in first year, and are supported by collaborative learning activities that give students an active role in their own learning. Graduates are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) and must meet the registration requirements of the College of Nurses of Ontario. The program also includes internship and research-study components. It suits students pursuing registration as a nurse, as well as related paths such as health administration, health policy analysis, or health data analysis.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Ontario Tech University states no admission requirements specific to the Collaborative Nursing program beyond the OSSD prerequisites it lists and its general English proficiency policy. Applicants need the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U/4M credits, including English (ENG4U) at a minimum 60 per cent, Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), and one of Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U) or Mathematics of Data Management (MDM4U), with a recommended minimum of 65 per cent in that math course. Applicants who already hold an undergraduate degree can add quality points to their admission average (3 per cent for a 60-69.9 per cent degree average, 6 per cent for 70-79.9 per cent, 9 per cent for 80 per cent or above); holders of an Ontario College Diploma in Practical Nursing are not eligible for this program. Admission is competitive, with last year's and the expected cut-off both at 85 per cent. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the university's Nursing-specific standard of IELTS Academic 7.0 overall (no band below 6.0), or the equivalent on Duolingo, PTE, CAEL, Cambridge English or Oxford ELLT, within two years of the intake. The program begins each September.
