Program details
Overview
Computational Physics is a specialization within the Bachelor of Science (Honours) program at Ontario Tech University, combining physics, mathematics and computer programming. Students learn to model, simulate and analyze physical systems, applying numerical methods, data analysis and scientific computing tools to areas such as quantum science, materials science, energy and astrophysics. The curriculum includes research opportunities and computational projects alongside coursework, an undergraduate thesis option, and a capstone experience. The program is delivered in-class at the North Oshawa campus with September and January start dates, and can be completed in four years or extended to five years through an optional direct-entry co-op stream that adds paid work terms. Applicants require the Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six 4U/4M credits, including English, Advanced Functions, and two of Biology, Calculus and Vectors, Chemistry or Physics. Graduates pursue careers in research, technology and engineering, including roles such as data scientist, research assistant and science communicator.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Current Ontario secondary school students must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits, including English (ENG4U), Advanced Functions (MHF4U), and two of Biology (SBI4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U) or Physics (SPH4U). A combined minimum 70 per cent average in prerequisite math and science courses is required; it is recommended that all four of MCV4U, SBI4U, SCH4U and SPH4U be taken. Admission is competitive, and the specific average required varies from year to year.
