Bachelor of General Studies

The Bachelor of General Studies is a three-year degree offered by Portage College in partnership with Athabasca University, designed for students who have taken a variety of courses or completed partial programs of study elsewhere. It follows a multi-access learning model, combining Portage College coursework with courses delivered by Athabasca University. The program lets students build a general arts and sciences credential around existing credit rather than starting a single-subject degree from scratch. Intakes run in fall, winter and spring, each with its own application deadline. Admission from high school requires a minimum 60% average with no mark below 50% in English Language Arts 30-1 and four other Grade 12-level courses. Mature applicants 19 or older who have been out of high school for at least one year qualify with the same average plus one other five-credit Grade 12 course. Applicants may also be admitted through Open Studies after successfully completing nine credits.
