Overview

This certificate lets students study Indigenous art forms and contemporary visual arts in a studio environment at Portage College's Lac La Biche Campus. Coursework covers traditional techniques such as beading, carving, sewing and hide tanning alongside contemporary practices including painting and printmaking. The programme runs through an Artist in Residence partnership with the college's Indigenous Arts and Culture programme, and students build a portfolio that can support progression into diploma-level studies. Graduates are prepared to work in First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities. The certificate is delivered in-person over one year, with a single Fall intake, and is open to international students, though it does not qualify graduates for a post-graduation work permit. Applicants who do not meet the standard admission requirements can access placement testing.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants need English Language Arts 30-2 and must complete a Coordinator Interview. Applicants who do not meet the standard requirements may access placement testing.
