Power Engineering at Portage College prepares students for a career operating and maintaining boilers, steam and gas turbines, generators, pumps, compressors, and pressure vessels in industrial and institutional plants. The program is offered at two certification levels: 4th Class, a 25-week program combined with a one-month field placement, and 3rd Class, a 52-week program combined with six to eight months of field placement for students who already hold a 4th Class certificate. The 4th Class stream is delivered through in-person instruction, while the 3rd Class stream is delivered online. Admission to either level is competitive and based on academic marks, relevant certifications, work experience, and an interview.
