Overview
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Queen's University offers graduate study in Mathematics, Statistics, and Engineering Mathematics, including a Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Mathematics and Engineering. Research strengths include pure mathematics (number theory, algebra, algebraic geometry, combinatorics, operator algebras, random matrix theory, dynamical systems), engineering mathematics (control theory, information theory, communication systems), mathematical biology, and statistics and data science. The department's Master's programs can be completed in about 12 months through a course-based option, or through a thesis-based option that typically takes about two years. Graduate students take part in research seminars, workshops, and departmental events such as Industry Day and Research Day, and work closely with faculty supervisors active in their research fields. The department has approximately 50 full-time graduate students, more than two-thirds of whom are pursuing doctoral degrees.
