The School of Religion at Queen's University offers a twelve-month, full-time Master of Arts (MA) in Religious Studies focused on the relationship between religion and culture, both ancient and contemporary, with an emphasis on contemporary theories and methods in the study of religion. Coursework equips students to analyze religion's construction through lenses such as politics, culture, race, gender, sexuality, and science, and students complete a research essay on a particular religious tradition or phenomenon. Because the School does not offer a PhD in Religious Studies, its research and teaching assistantship opportunities are directed entirely toward MA students. Admission requires a GPA equivalent to a B+ on the Queen's scale in a four-year honours undergraduate degree in Religious Studies or an equivalent field from a recognized university. A self-funded, part-time MA option is also available, completed over two to three years, though it does not support online or hybrid coursework; part-time applications are due February 1. Graduates pursue doctoral study, public policy research, international development work, education, journalism, and other fields engaging multiculturalism and diversity.
