Overview
The Communication Design post-graduate diploma builds on an existing graphic design credential, giving graduates one additional year to develop advanced, investigative design work that goes beyond a traditional graphic-design school portfolio. Students develop strategic design thinking, advanced visual storytelling, and interactive projects, working across disciplinary boundaries while strengthening typography, professional collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Coursework builds on existing proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite and basic HTML/CSS to produce more ambitious, self-directed design projects. The program runs on a September start at the Roblin Centre in Winnipeg. It is intended for graduates of RRC Polytech's Graphic Design program, or an equivalent two-year diploma or three-to-four-year degree in graphic design from a recognized design school, who want to push their design practice further and build an advanced portfolio for senior design roles or freelance practice.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must submit proof of graduation from, or enrolment in the final year of, RRC Polytech's Graphic Design program, or an equivalent two-year diploma or three-to-four-year degree in graphic design from a recognized design school, with training covering concept development, corporate and editorial publication, campaign strategy and branding, typography, website design, illustration, and prepress and production skills, plus proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite and basic HTML/CSS. Official transcripts must be issued within six months of application and submitted directly from the institution. Applicants who completed at least three years of full-time secondary education in Canada, the United States, or an ELR-exempt country with English as the language of instruction meet the English language requirement automatically; others must submit an approved English language assessment. A portfolio of artwork demonstrating advanced graphic design skills must also be submitted by the program's portfolio deadline.
