Overview
The Pre-employment Electrician certificate program is an intensive, full-time course preparing students for entry into the electrical trade. Over 12 weeks, students learn the foundational theories and principles of electrical work, hands-on basic wiring techniques, and safety practices for handling electrical systems, supported by labs and workshops that simulate real-world tasks. The program aligns with the first period of Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training's Electrician curriculum, and graduates are eligible to register as apprentices and challenge the first-period exam. Graduates benefit from strong employment demand for skilled electricians, and with further experience can advance into supervisory positions, project management or independent contracting. Delivery is in person at SAIT's Main Campus. The program is offered by SAIT's MacPhail School of Energy and does not accept international applicants.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants educated in Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and complete the following courses or equivalents: Math 20-1, 20-2 or 20-3, English Language Arts 20-1 or 20-2, and Science 10. SAIT accepts equivalent high school courses for applicants educated outside Alberta. Applicants educated outside Canada must demonstrate English language proficiency and provide an international document assessment confirming they meet the program's admission requirements.
