Trades - Apprenticeship in Electric Motor Systems Technician

This four-year apprenticeship prepares students to check, fix and rebuild electrical and mechanical equipment such as electric motors, generators, transformers and controllers. Each of the four 12-month periods includes a minimum of 1,560 hours of on-the-job training and eight weeks of classroom instruction at SAIT. Training is delivered in person at SAIT's Main Campus using a blended format, with course activity done both on campus and online. Graduates receive an advanced diploma in addition to journeyperson status through Alberta's Apprenticeship and Industry Training. Entry follows the standard apprenticeship route: applicants meet the program's education requirements or demonstrate equivalent standing through the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training entrance process before registering with SAIT for their technical training periods. Entry follows one of three routes: completing English 20-2, Math 20-3 and Science 10 at the high school level, passing all five Canadian GED tests, or succeeding on the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Entrance Exam.
