— it helps other students.
This certificate program prepares students for work in auto body shops, auto dealerships and private garages. Coursework covers basic and advanced metalwork, basic and advanced painting, benchwork and safe working procedures, door servicing, glass installation, electrical systems, front sheet metal and plastic material repair, welding, and industry communications and math. Students train hands-on in Saskatchewan Polytechnic's auto body shops and complete a one-week placement in an auto body repair shop to apply their skills in an industry setting. The program runs 32 weeks full-time on campus at both the Saskatoon and Regina campuses, with a single intake each year beginning in September. Graduates typically find work as auto body technicians, damage repair estimators, or automotive glass technicians at repair shops, dealerships and commercial fleets, and may be eligible for credit toward apprenticeship training with the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission; journeypersons can also progress into the Bachelor of Applied Management degree with two further years of study.
