Overview
This two-year, 71-week diploma develops scientific and analytical laboratory skills for careers in chemical and materials testing. Students build competency in analytical instrumentation, chemistry, laboratory quality control practices, and data processing through extensive hands-on lab work, developed with input from industry to reflect current workplace practice. The program concludes with a four-week industry research project that applies classroom learning to a real analytical problem. Scheduled class hours run 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on campus at Saskatoon, with a part-time option available for students who wish to complete the program over three years. The program has a single intake each September. Graduates are prepared for laboratory technologist roles in sectors such as mining, environmental testing, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and food and water quality analysis.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires Grade 12 with a minimum grade of 60% in each of a 30-level English Language Arts course, Chemistry 30, and Pre-Calculus 30, along with compliance with Saskatchewan Polytechnic's English Language Requirement.
