Trades - Apprenticeship in Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)

Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) is a Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) registered trade, completed over a four-year, earn-while-you-learn term. Apprentices are employed in the trade and sign a contract of apprenticeship with their employer and the SATCC, developing most of their skills through supervised on-the-job training under a certified journeyperson. This workplace training is supplemented by required in-school technical training, delivered by Saskatchewan Polytechnic at its Saskatoon campus, amounting to about eight weeks a year across the four levels of the program. Technical-training blocks combine trade theory, testing and hands-on practice installing, maintaining and repairing stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. On completing all four years of on-the-job and in-school training, apprentices become eligible to write the examination for certification as a journeyperson industrial mechanic (millwright). Start dates for specific technical-training periods are set by the SATCC rather than published on the program page.
