Overview
This one-year certificate runs 32 weeks full time and gives students the foundational knowledge and skills to install, repair, overhaul, and maintain stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. Training is split evenly between shop and classroom instruction and covers basic trade mathematics, drafting and blueprint reading, welding, fabrication and installation, pumps and pipe fitting, and mechanical components. Classes run on campus with hands-on practice in equipped shop facilities. The program admits students each September. Admission requires Grade 12 with Foundations of Mathematics 20, Workplace and Apprenticeship Mathematics 20, or Pre-Calculus 20, along with the institution's English Language Requirement; applicants may also qualify via the ACCUPLACER placement test or with 15 approved post-secondary credits in place of the standard grade requirements. The certificate provides a broad grounding for students pursuing careers as industrial mechanics or millwrights.
