Overview
The Plant Operator Certificate prepares you for entry level positions as a plant operator. With the Plant Operator Certificate, you'll gain knowledge and develop the skills required to operate, monitor and troubleshoot control equipment and processing units found in most industrial settings. You'll learn about industrial plant functionality and gain a critical understanding of plant systems, process fundamentals, and plant operations. You'll engage in a variety of classroom, shop and real-world activities. You will learn the theoretical principles of operations and processes in the classroom, and apply your knowledge in our shop where you'll gain valuable experience by practicing various operational procedures.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must have graduated from a BC senior secondary school or equivalent, with Workplace Math 11 or Selkirk AUD Math 46 at a minimum of 60%. Mature applicants aged 19 or older who are not secondary-school graduates will be considered if they are working to complete Grade 10 or equivalent, including English 10 and Mathematics 10, with Grade 12 preferred. No IELTS, TOEFL or other standardized language-test score is published. All applicants must complete a computerized placement test in reading, writing and mathematics through the College Readiness Tool once their application is submitted; employers may separately require a higher level of math as part of their own hiring policies. Intake is Fall only, for a 6-month program made up of 18 weeks of classroom instruction plus a 6-week practicum.
