Overview
Welder Foundation is a 28-week introductory program that prepares learners for entry level positions as apprentice welders in most sectors of the economy including manufacturing, construction, transportation, resource extraction, and resource development.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry requires graduation from a British Columbia senior secondary school or equivalent, together with Workplace Math 11 or Selkirk's AUD Math 46 at 60% or better. Mature applicants aged 19 or over who are not secondary graduates may still be considered if they are working toward at least Grade 10, including English 10 and Mathematics 10, with Grade 12 preferred. After applying, all applicants must complete the College Readiness Tool, a computerized placement test in reading, writing and mathematics. No IELTS, TOEFL or other English-proficiency test score is published for this programme. Applicants must also be physically fit for welding work: mobile, able to lift, with good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination and balance, and able to work at heights and in adverse weather. Selection gives preference to fully qualified applicants by application-completion date; partially qualified applicants are assessed on overall qualifications. The programme runs a single Fall intake, and admitted students supply their own hand tools, safety boots and leatherwear and pay a refundable $100 tool deposit at the start.
